The Central and South America Pavilion

The World Expo 2010 sponsored the construction of joint pavilions in order to attract bigger number countries to participate in the event. The Central and South America Pavilion consisted of stands from 11 countries: Bolivia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, the Dominican Republic and Uruguay.

SYMA was responsible for the interior design and construction of the common areas of the pavilion and played a major role in the communication between the Expo Bureau's different representatives and several suppliers responsible for building the pavilion.

Since the Central and South America continents consisted of many coastal areas surrounded by both the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans, the inspiration for the elements in atrium of the pavilion comes from the sea. An 8-meter high wave sculpture welcomed visitors as soon as they arrived in the pavilion. The decorations on the pillars of the pavilion were inspired by drawings of ancient civilizations in Central and South America.

SYMA was responsible for the Uruguay and Costa Rica projects within the Central and South America Pavilion.

Uruguay

Uruguay was present at the World Expo 2010 with a 324sqm pavilion inside the Central and South America Joint Pavilion.

With the theme "Quality of Life, A Commitment to Your City", the pavilion was designed as a square in the city center surrounded by beautiful landscapes. With the use of unique crafts, photos and movies, Uruguay presented its efforts to build modern, efficient, clean, green and friendly cities to achieve sustainable economic and human development, and to show the quality of life of its people.

SYMA was a key partner for the Uruguay pavilion, providing valuable services for construction, scenography and Audio Visual installations, reproducing the Uruguayan atmosphere. The pavilion attracted almost 1.5 million visitors as a place for recreation and relaxation in a peaceful and natural environment.

With the country's main export products being produce from cows – beef, dairy products, and leather - the center piece of the pavilion was a covered area representing a cow. SYMA understood the importance of this representation to Uruguay and built it with dedication using high quality materials resulting in an exquisite element of the pavilion which stood out and attracted many visitors.

Costa Rica

The Costa Rica Pavilion was all about ecology. Costa Rica is a country in search of harmony with nature so its main goal was to drive its tourism, business, economic and social development in in an eco-friendly way. The pavilion's theme was: "No Artificial Ingredients" and its design was inspired by the stone sphere that both symbolizes the aborigines who first inhabited the land and its culture.

SYMA was responsible for the engineering studies, construction, scenography and maintenance of the pavilion for the 6–month duration of the exhibition, showcasing Costa Rica's four core themes: Peace, Industry Investment, Education, and Environment. One of the pavilion's main features - a dome with the a 180 degrees movie about Costa Rica projected on its surface- was one of SYMA's biggest challenges in this project, requiring sourcing for a specialized fabric to achieve a subtle and firm curved line needed for its construction.

SYMA's contribution was crucial in reflecting the country's eco-friendly and sustainable society through the pavilion.
