The Brazilian Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade and APEX- the Brazilian Export Promotion Agency - chose SYMA as the General Contractor for the Brazil Pavilion at Shanghai World Expo 2010.
2010 World Expo
The World Expo is a large-scale, global, and non-commercial exhibition which aims to promote the exchange of ideas and development of the world economy, culture, science and technology. It is a unique opportunity allowing its participants – countries, cities or organizations participating with a pavilion – to promote themselves and improve their international relations. With 150 years of history, the World Expo is a mega-event comparable to the Olympic Games in size, importance, international projection and legacy for its host-city.
The World Expo 2010, held in Shanghai, was the largest in history with 5.28 square km in size, 240 participants and 73 million visitors over a 6–month period. Under the theme "Better City, Better Life", it was a great platform to demonstrate to both Chinese citizens and foreign nations the enormous progress of China's urban development in the heart of the nation's business hub of Shanghai and the economic rise of China in the 21st century.
For its well-established and exceptional track record in China, SYMA was appointed as an Official Designated Supplier and Official Recommended Supplier providing a wide range of services. In total, SYMA was responsible for projects in 16 pavilions: Hong Kong, Brazil, Monaco, Liverpool, the Swiss Cities Basel/Geneva/Zurich, Hamburg, Freiburg, Vanke Corporate Pavilion, Dusseldorf, Costa Rica, Uruguay, Central and South America Pavilion Public Areas, Rwanda, Zimbabwe, Burundi and The Gambia.
With such a big role to play in the World Expo 2010, SYMA's dedication and quality services were a major contribution to the success of the whole event.
The Hong Kong Pavilion
Hong Kong's participation in WORLD EXPO 2010 includes a stand-alone Pavilion with the theme "Hong Kong - Potential Unlimited". The Hong Kong Pavilion is by no means the largest, but is certainly one of the most sleek and striking pavilions in the Expo Park.
The Monaco Pavilion
Monaco is a city-state with thousands of years of history and possesses a very unique image around the world. SYMA was responsible for translating this image to the visitors of the Shanghai World Expo and guaranteeing a smooth operation of the pavilion to the high standards that the Monaco Pavilion management team expected.
The Liverpool Pavilion
The Liverpool city participated in the Urban Best Practice area – a section for cities to participate in the World Expo independently, showing cases of programs implemented to improve the quality of urban life by typical cities in the world.
The Freiburg Pavilion
For the second time with its own representation at a World Expo, the city of Freiburg and the "Freiburg Marketing and Management Company Ltd." (Freiburg Wirtschaft Touristik und Messe GmbH & Co) trusted SYMA to build and maintain its "Green City" Pavilion.
The Hamburg Pavilion
As Shanghai's twin city, Hamburg presented an outstanding structure for the 2010 World Expo: China's first certified "Passive" energy House which used sun light and wind as renewable energy sources with up to 90% less energy consumption than other buildings of similar size.
